Maya Angelou once said, "I've learned that people will forget what you said, people will forget what you did, but people will never forget how you made them feel."
That same philosophy can so often describe the impact that many other literary greats have had on our human emotions, through their written words.
It is with this in mind that we should always take time to celebrate and honour the best in the literary arts. Over the past few months, it had occurred to us that there has not been one such celebration to honour these individuals in our municipality, until now.
This is the driving force and the motivation behind the new one-day "Quinte Regional Authors Expo 2012." The event will take place Saturday, April 28 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Best Western on North Front Street in the second floor meeting rooms.
We have been overwhelmed with the enthusiasm and the response thus far to our inaugural showcase of this region's authors. In fact, we have sparked the interest of a national best-selling author/broadcaster from outside the region, Elizabeth Blakely.
The expo will also showcase many local well-known names, including legendary authors and historians, C. W. Hunt and Gerald E. Boyce to name just a few.
As one of the event co-ordinators along side Dawn O'Dell, author, agent and owner of Angels of Inspiration, and Joshua Davis of the Other Side Media Group, we are pleased to announce the creation of the "Author/Humanitarian of The Year Award."
We will award this toward the end of the day's festivities. This award gives us the opportunity to recognize one individual from our event who exemplifies excellence in their literary works while enriching the lives of so many others at the same time.
This recipient will be chosen by those attending the expo. So be sure to fill out your ballet and have your say.
Other highlights of the expo will include various authors speaking on their literary craft, book reading and individual author displays to enable visitors to get up close and personal and maybe even purchase a few of their latest books.
Another great point to note about "The Quinte Regional Authors Expo 2012" is that many of our authors will be supporting local charities of their choice through the sale of their books.
These charities range from such organizations as The Canadian Mental Health Association, the Three Oaks Foundation, Childhood Cancer, and the Brain Injury Associcaiton to name a few.
Our event will be sure to have something for everyone, from the youngest at heart to the most avid reader. Bring the whole family out and plan to browse and enjoy this exciting new event.
Admission is free and be sure to enjoy a visit with Amanda at the refreshment café on the site.
